The longevity of the Manx as a successful racing machine is a testament to the soundness of the orignal design. A mainstay of the Grand Prix "circus" during the fifties and sixties winning races against technically far more advanced machines, it dominated at National and club level during the same period and either in original, or increasingly "replica", form continues to win today in classic events. The production Manx had gained the McCandless designed "featherbed" frame in 1951. Over the ensuing ten years of production developments prooven on the "works" bikes were incorporated into the following seasons production models ensuring that they remained at the front of the field. Today speacialists continue to build and develop the Manx for use in classic competition utilising modern engineering techniques to improove the machines performance and reliability whilst staying true to the spirit of the original.
This 500cc example was originally built during 2002. It has at its heart a Molnar engine that benefitted from new cranckcases, piston and valves when it was rebuilt by Fred Walmsley during 2008, breathing through an Amal GP carburettor. A five speed Quaife/Hemmings gearbox is fitted in the Andover Norton built "featherbed" frame, with the swinging arm coming from the same source. A set of short leading link Renolds forks grace the front end and accomadate a twin leading shoe front brake laced to an alloy rim.
The motorcycle is described by the vendor as being in good condition throughout and "ready to race".
