The Ducati M900 Monster has rightly come to regarded as one of the classic motorcycles of the last two decades, combining practicality with a huge "grin factor". The machines have also proved amenable to tuning and customisation although few have been modified to the extent of the example offered.
This machine is one of only six made. It started life as a standard 1994 900cc Monster. The engine was tuned by Tony Foster at PCS (Personal Cycle Services) of Daytona Beach, who installed a turbocharger, increasing the power output to 112 bhp at the back wheel from the standard models 76 bhp. PCS had developed the kit in conjunction with Mike Lee of High Gear Specialities as a bolt on modification with no modifications to the original structure of the motorcycle being required. The system employed is of the "blow through" type, whereby the air passes through the turbo before reaching the carburettors enabling the standard airbox and instruments to be retained. The motorcycle was then returned to Germany where it was further refined. Ultra light, gold, magnesium Marvic wheels replaced the original items, multipot Brembo goldline callipers with braided lines have been fitted and a full, custom made, stainless exhaust system is fitted. The handlebar fairing, seat and fuel tank have been finished in a deep, lustrous blue.
The vendor informs us that it is virtually brand new, having covered only 160 test kilometres, during which time it demonstrated excellent handling characteristics resulting from its lightweight and smooth power delivery. It is offered with copies of magazine articles and a US certificate of title.
