The Sunny GTI-R (or Pulsar GTI-R) was built by Nissan in order to contest the Group A class of the World Rally Championship. A muscular looking three-door hatchback it featured an ATTESA four-wheel drive system and was powered by a DOHC 16-valve 1998cc four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Driven by such aces as Tommi Mäkinen and Stig Blomqvist the Works cars competed throughout the 1991 and 1992 seasons with varying results, the best of which was Blomqvist's 5th place on the Safari Rally.

The reportedly two-owner, road-going example being sold was first registered in 1992. It is believed only 46 right-hand drive cars were imported to the UK, of which this is one. Moreover it is apparently one of two that were displayed on the Nissan stand at the UK Motor Show that year. Offered as a prize in a Daily Mail competition, it was won by and first registered to an Allan Forder. A young man unable to afford the running costs at the time, he sold the Sunny via Carwise of Horsham with just 120 miles on the clock, and for the last 13 years it has resided in Guernsey, where it was registered with the number '25635'. The vendor regards the indicated mileage of 44,000 as genuine and tells us that the engine and gearbox are in "very good condition" and that the Nissan "drives exceptionally well". He considers the bodywork is "in good condition for its age, with just the odd stone chip at the front" and that the interior is "immaculate, as if straight from the showroom". This Nissan is being sold complete with the original and second bill of sale, all the handbooks, service book with eight stamps, a selection of service invoices, the Guernsey logbook and a fresh MOT. The Sunny once again wears its original registration number - 'K585 CGM'. The Nissan represents a unique opportunity to purchase a tidy, low mileage example of one of these rare cars. With around 189bhp/ton and four-wheel drive these pocket rockets are fun to drive and a real talking point wherever they go.
