Lot 25

1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Coupe

Estimated at £45,000 - £55,000

Lot details
Registration No: JGC247C
Chassis No: 1E32162
Mot Expiry: July 2015

This handsome Series I E-Type Coupe was built on November 16th 1965 and subsequently vacated the Browns Lane factory bound for Jaguar Cars Inc, of Mahwak, New Jersey, USA. The first owner is recorded as a John H McClinton of Glendale, California. However, the vendor has been led to believe the car carried the registration `SLY 519' and actually belonged to Sylvester Stallone; even pointing out that the factory-installed Red interior trim was removed once in America and replaced with Black upholstery - evidently a known preference of Stallone. These are indeed intriguing thoughts, but attempts to further confirm the Jaguar's Stateside history have, however, so far been unsuccessful. What's not in dispute is that the E-Type was repatriated in 1989, restored from rust-free condition, converted to right-hand drive and accorded the 1966 registration `JGC 247C' on September 28; at which point the owner was Michael Jenkins of Crawley and the recorded mileage was 67,729. It then passed to Peter Ratcliffe of Teddington in January 1990, John Pitchers of Northwood in December 1995 and to the vendor in March 2008.

He informs us that John Pitchers was an engineer `who looked after the car very well' and since assuming ownership the vendor has continued the tradition, ensured it was always garaged, and carried out various `sensible upgrades'. They include the fitting of Coopercraft front brakes, alloy radiator, Kenlowe fan, electronic ignition and sports coil. He says the Jaguar now `runs superbly and reliably' and currently grades the XK engine as `excellent', the Coupe bodywork as `very good, with only one or two blemishes', and the Black paintwork, Black interior trim and four-speed manual transmission as `good'. `JGC 247C' is now being offered complete with custom cover, a spare set of wire wheels shod with good tyres, and a collection of old tax discs.
