Lot details Registration No: RSJ 217 Chassis No: KAC13127433 Mot Expiry: None
The first postwar MG saloon, the Y Type with 6-window prewar styling and single-carb TC motor, which had originally been intended for launch in 1941, but which had been delayed by WW2, eventually appeared in the motor car-starved home market in 1947. After 7459 YAs and YBs, the latter having improved brakes and hypoid rear axle, and 877 twin carb TD-engined YTs had been snapped up, the ZA Magnette replacement arrived in 1947.
The Z Type Magnette shared 4-door saloon bodywork with the Wolseley 4/44 and was powered by the same 1489cc B Series motor, the first of many models to employ this power unit. The ZB version of the Magnette, with more powerful 69bhp engine, higher rear axle ratio and wider rear window, followed in 1956. Before replaced by the far less sporting looking Magnette III, a total of 18,076 ZAs and then 18,534 ZBs were produced.
The 1958-manufactured Magnette ZB on offer has been the subject of a total restoration, which has only been just completed. The sports saloon bodywork, rare with a sliding sunroof, is finished in red and has a re-Connolised interior in red leather, some if it still original, though much it replaced. The headlining has been renewed and the woodwork repolished. The 1.5-litre B Series engine is fed by twin SU carburettors, the engine bay having been well detailed during refurbishment. Four new tyres have been fitted.
Please Note: This vehicle does not have an MOT.
