The Suzuki Motor Co. was established in 1909 by Michio Suzuki to produce machinery for the cotton industry. An initial diversification into 4 wheeled transport was curtailed by WW2 but after the war Japan had a need for cheap reliable transport so Suzuki, like a lot of others around the world, began to produce clip-on engines for pushbikes. These proved to be an immediate success and soon they were making full motorcycles and by the early 60s were second only to Honda in numbers of two-wheelers manufactured. Famous for performance two strokes, probably the most sought after model from that era is the RG500 Gamma square 4 sports bike, based on the Grand Prix bike that dominated 500cc racing in the late 1970s and 1980s ridden to world championship success by Barry Sheene, Marco Luccinelli and Franco Uncini.

Part of a deceased estate, this Gamma was purchased by the second owner 31 years ago with 6300 miles on the clock, according to the sales invoice. Now showing a credible 8717 miles it has retained a good degree of originality including the much sought after standard Suzuki expansion chambers and all the warning labels and cable ties it would have had from new. In need of a thorough recommissioning, the engine turns over with compression but no attempt has been made to start it in recent years. The bodywork has a few bits of damage, more due to storage than use, but all appears to be original apart from a fibreglass pattern front mudguard. Finished in the rarer red black and white colour scheme it is fitted with a single seat cowl and comes supplied with a paddock stand. There are not many of these Gammas left out there un-discovered, and more importantly in standard trim, and they are now commanding higher and higher prices.
