Lot 24 - 1992 Lotus Elan SE

1992 Lotus Elan SE

Estimated at £6,500 - £7,500

Lot details
Registration No: J204KMW
Chassis No: SCC100ZT1NHD16682
Mot Expiry: Sept 2005

In the same year that the great and late Colin Chapman introduced his celebrated monocoque Lotus 25 single-seater, the boss of the Norfolk racing and sportscar firm launched his first Elan in 1962 with sheet steel backbone chassis and separate plastic bodywork as a replacement for the all-GRP Elite. Whereas the Elite used a Coventry Climax engine, the first Elan was powered by a motor built by Lotus themselves, the 1558cc Twin Cam based on a Ford four-cylinder block. Along with a Series 2 version, an additional, stretched and widened 2+2 Elan appeared from 1967.
Offered here, though, is a much more modern Elan. With backbone chassis, composite bodywork, interactive wishbone suspension on a floating front sub frame, transversely-mounted engine and front-wheel drive, the model was first introduced in 1989. The two-door bodywork, above and below, of this 1992-made SE version is reportedly in very good condition. Both pale blue paintwork and grey interior both are also said to be excellent. We understand that this right-hand drive Elan has been beautifully maintained. With the power output of the 1558cc capacity four considerably boosted by a turbocharger, the Lotus-Isuzu engine and manual transmission are reportedly in excellent order. The two-seater sportscar is said to be very rapid indeed, the model having 0-62mph in 6.5 sec and 135 top speed potential.
The 90,000 mileage displayed when entered is claimed to be the genuine total from new, the vendor telling us that the car has no know faults, whilst the only recently renewed MOT will be current until next October.
