While traditional cruisers might be considered pretty bikes, with lots of chrome and curves, Yamaha’s V-Max was one of the greatest exponents of the so-called “power cruiser” style, combining cruiser of levels of comfort with high-performance engineering and aggressive styling – almost more bruiser than cruiser. The model was launched in 1985 with a liquid-cooled 1,197cc V4 engine and five-speed transmission. With a claimed output of 120bhp, it was said to reach 150mph, while remaining a comfortable machine over long distances. Its distinctive appearance earnt it a starring rôle in the 2005 film Ghost Rider 2, and when production of the first V-Max ended in 2007, it was little-changed from the 1985 original. A revamped second-generation model was produced from 2009 to 2020.
This well-preserved 2007 V-Max, one of the last of the first-generation models, has had six keepers from new and has remarkably only covered around 12,500 miles despite being in near-continuous use from new. Its mileage is supported by its MOT history, which includes the current MOT valid to September, 2026. The large history file includes the current V5C, assorted MOTs and invoices, Data Tag paperwork, and the handbook and owner’s manual.
