The vendor of the Fittipaldi being auctioned tells us that it is an F8C, which has been on static display for many years and is believed to have been an ADA Fittipaldi. One of the three 1980 season F8s was modified to incorporate Gary Thomas revisions from the 1981 season and became an F8C, two more if which were built from scratch. It is claimed that many original parts have been used, such as tub, bodywork and suspension, and it could be turned into a Thoroughbred GP car, although no engine is fitted. To be sold to the highest bid today, there may not be a more reasonably priced 1980s F1!
Fittipaldi were on the F1 grid from 1974 until 1982, the driving force being Fittipaldi brothers Emerson, a former World Champ and ex-Lotus and McLaren driver, and fellow F1 racer Wilson. The brothers built their single seaters first in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but, following a merger with Walter Wolf's team, mostly in Reading. Like other F1 minnows, their cars were really Ford Cosworth powered kit cars with Hewland transmissions.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
