Maserati made their name out of much pre and postwar motor racing success. In their very first race, the Targa Florio of 1926 with founder Alfieri Maserati driving, the marque scored a class win. The most celebrated Maserati driver of all time, though, was Argentinean Juan Manual Fangio, who won seven World Championship races between 1953 and 1957, culminating in his becoming World Champion driver in 1957 at the wheel of a Maserati 250F and the marque very nearly beating arch rivals Ferrari to the World Sportscar title. The last of the Maserati Bros, Ettore, died in 1990 and, after Citroen engines had been used for a while and Chrysler became a shareholder, De Tomaso sold out to Fiat in 1993.
The 1990 BiTurbo offered here has righthand drive and is therefore an original UK market 2.8-litre V6 engined car with Zagato-crafted spyder bodywork. Finished in the most popular colour of all with aficionados of Italian cars, Rosso Corsa, with interior trimmed in black leather, this high-spec head turner with climate control and CD player has a full Maserati Service History, which includes recent cam belt renewal.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
