Lot details Registration No: ALG272J Chassis No: 157640 Mot Expiry: April 2004
The 1966-introduced 124 was a new car from the ground-up, its design and development started by Vittorio Montanari and completed by Oscar Montabone. The mainstay saloon version first took to the roads with a 1197cc engine. An open 124 spyder with bodywork designed and constructed by Pininfarina appeared later in 1966 powered by a 1438cc version of the Fiat 125's twin cam. The same engine was also used for a fixed head coupe which was offered from the spring of 1967, whilst progressively larger capacity engines appeared under 124 coupe bonnets, next 1608cc, then 1778cc and finally 1997cc, as fitted to the car offered here. Before production finally ceased in 1975, the Italian giants had made a total of nearly 280,000 124 coupes.
This Fiat 124 Sport, a right-hand drive 2-door coupe, arrived in the UK from the old car friendly climate of South Africa in March of this year. The Cheshire entrant believes it has only ever to have had two owners since made in Italy in 1971. It is claimed still to be very original with excellent bodywork and red paint in very good order, the black interior very good, and both 1.6 4-cylinder twin cam and 5-speed box both reportedly excellent. The car comes with original handbook and all-important Taxes Paid Certificate as well as all the other necessary papers to achieve UK registration.
