Dates from the most popular year of T120 production
A beautifully presented older restoration with matching numbers
Said to run well, with a single-carburettor head for ease of tuning
In 1937, Triumph introduced the Edward Turner-designed Speed Twin, the progenitor of a range of Triumph twins that would rank among the world’s best motorcycles in the post-war years. Many believe the T120 Bonneville, first seen in late 1958, to be the greatest classic British vertical twin and it is now one of the most sought-after bikes of the era. The T120’s 650cc engine was derived from the Tiger T110’s, but with twin Amal carburettors and a high-performance camshaft as standard. Reputedly capable of 115mph at launch, in 1963 a number of changes were made to improve stability at high speeds, including a move to unitary construction. The T120 was produced very much with the American market in mind, and 1967 was its best ever year for Stateside sales, with more than 28,000 snapped up. It remained in production until 1973.
This 1967 example has been restored to a very high standard in the past and we are advised by the vendor that it retains all its matching numbers, although at some stage the head was swapped for a single-carburettor type, probably for ease of tuning and maintenance. Said to be in very good running order, it is sold with the current V5C.
