1939 Lagonda LG6 Touring Limousine

Sold for £37,125

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: EU-Reg
Chassis No: 12523
Mot Expiry: None

Introduced at the 1937 London Motorshow, the LG6 was the brainchild of Lagonda's then technical director W.O. Bentley. Sharing the same chassis design as the incoming V12 model (complete with independent torsion-bar front suspension), it was powered by the proven 4.5-litre six-cylinder OHV engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Decidedly expensive and boasting nigh-on 100mph performance, only 85 LG6 cars were made (of which just 2 are known to have worn closed four-door Barker coachwork). Ordered new by Miss Eno of Eno's Fruit Salts Co on March 8th 1939, this particular long wheelbase example - chassis number 12523 - was entrusted to Barker & Co just over a month later. Bodied as a Touring Limousine and originally finished in Grey with a walnut dashboard and Ace wheel discs, its warranty was issued on June 19th 1939. Migrating to America the following year, the Lagonda is known to have passed through the hands of Russell Archibald, G.E. Brandt, R.J. Link, Ed McClintick, James Valentine and Fred Brown before being repatriated in 1991. Belonging to Cambridgeshire resident Colin Lindsey for a while, the LG6 subsequently relocated to The Netherlands where it was acquired by the vendor during 2010. Extensively recommissioned over the last three years, the Touring Limousine has had attention paid to its: ignition system, fuel system, rear axle, dynamo, starter motor, radiator, water pump, clutch, gearbox, engine (bottom-end check, cylinder head overhaul), brakes, and shock absorbers etc. Riding on new wire wheels shod with fresh tyres, the Lagonda has also undergone a thorough cleaning of its patinated Black paintwork and Tan leather upholstery. Further benefiting from a new wiring loom and stainless steel exhaust, this unique and decidedly imposing Post Vintage Thoroughbred is said to "start on the button with good oil pressure" and to "pull and brake like a LG6 should".
