BMW was established in the early 1900s as a manufacturer of aircraft engines and produced their first motorcycle in 1923, the R23, already sporting the flat twin boxer configuration they have now become synonymous with. In 1980 they launched the R80G/S, the initials standing for Gelande (Offroad) and Strasse (Street) becoming the first large capacity multi-purpose bike and at a stroke creating the now popular 'Adventure Bike' market. The bike went on to dominate the Paris Dakar rally in the 80s and in its latest incarnation is one of the best selling bikes in Europe.

This 1990 R80GS is the later model with BMW's Paralever rear suspension and drive unit. The bike comes fitted with Mikuni carbs and an uprated alternator and was subject to a top end engine overhaul in 2019 including a cylinder hone, new rings, cam chain, valves and guides. It also has a LED headlamp conversion, spot lights, heated handlebar grips, a Corbin seat, Migsel side stand, Metal Mule panniers, recent Avon trail tyres, ABM front brake and a fork brace.
