Lot details
Registration No: RM 7372
Chassis No: 41740
Mot Expiry: None

William Morris launched his world famous Cowley model just before WWI, making 1344 of them at an initial cost of £169 for the 2-seater version and £194 for the 4-seater before production facilities were deployed to serve the war effort. By the time car production resumed postwar in 1919, the basic Cowley had gone up to £295. Sales were slow, so he slashed prices and, for the 1921 Motor Show, a Cowley was 35 per cent cheaper. By 1925, Morris was home market leader, securing 41 per cent of UK sales. Soon, the eventually to be ennobled Lord Nuffield had become the British motor industry's first self-made millionaire - thanks, in the main, to the enduring popularity of the Cowley.
Originally built at Cowley by Morris Motors, this 1930 Cowley chassis vehicle has been rebuilt and converted into a VSCC trials car which, the vendor tells us, performs extremely well in the Class 2 specials category. Invoices on file show that the 1.5 litre-engine has been completely rebuilt and tuned by Don Rawson and a rare 4-speed gearbox fitted, also rebuilt. Indeed, the car has not been trialed extensively since this mechanical rebuild and therefore should enable the next owner to enjoy many more miles of vintage motoring and competition work. Body, paintwork and interior are all said to be fair, whilst the car comes with the all-important VSCC event eligibility documentation.
Please note: We have not had this vehicle running.
