The Gentry was the brainchild of Triumph production line worker Roger Blockley. His prototype was created in 20 months around a Triumph Vitesse chassis, 1600cc engine and a pair of original MG TF wings. The result was much admired, RMB Motors created and commercial production commenced at a mushroom shed in Barwell, Leicestershire. The MG TF-esque newcomer was sold as a fully assembled bodyshell to replace that of either a Triumph Herald or Vitesse, and required just 12 bolts to secure it for life. Blockley sold the company in 1989, since when it has changed hands several times - the manufacturing rights for the Gentry now belong to Geoff and Ellen Beston.
'ARA 618G' forms part of a deceased estate and is said to have been much loved by its last keeper. It is based on a 1968 Triumph Herald 1200 and finished in Green complemented by Beige upholstery. The vendor informs us that the Gentry "performed well on road test" and considers the four-cylinder engine and four-speed manual transmission to be in "good" order and the bodywork, paintwork and interior trim to be "fair". The two-seater is well equipped and comes complete with tonneau, wire wheels, auxiliary lights, luggage rack, badge bar and bonnet straps, plus an MOT valid into May 2013.
