Lot details Registration No: 271 KMA Chassis No: S824252 Mot Expiry: Oct 2003
The most outstanding sports cars of the postwar era were the XKs from Sir William Lyons' Jaguar Cars of Coventry. The last in the line was the 150 made between the springs of 1957 and 1961, when the Browns Lane production facilities were converted to make E Type Jags in far greater volume. In fact under 10,000 150s were made in roadster, drophead or fixed head coupe form.
The history of this 1958-built XK150, a right-hand drive fixed head with '271 KMA' registration intact, has been most impressively and fully charted, with all mileages noted at ownership changes. We are told that some restoration work was carried out circa-1975 and that only 23,000 miles have been driven since. The coupe bodywork in Cornish Grey is currently rated by the Swindon vendor as being very good, the patina of the red interior being particularly nice.
As the engineer author of a most comprehensive 'Vehicle Condition Advice Report' concluded: "The vehicle still has that original feel, an atmosphere seldom found in a restored vehicle, that I am particularly pleased to find. The vehicle drives well and, on the whole, is a pleasure to use being a good example of the type." This report can be found together with the rest of the paperwork which may be perused at the documents desk at Olympia. The owner tells us that the car has been regularly maintained and it drives very well.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
