First seen in 1950 having been announced at the Earl's Court Motor Show, the Morgan Plus 4 was a larger and more powerful derivative of the company's 4/4 and remained in production on and off for seventy years. The Plus 4 at its introduction was fitted with a 2088 cc Standard Vanguard engine installed on a widened and strengthened 4/4 chassis with a wheelbase lengthened by 4 in (102 mm). Hydraulic brakes, initially all drum, were fitted for the first time on a Morgan. The Plus Four went from strength to strength and was upgraded with the Triumph TR2 and TR3 power units and ended production in 1969. For 1985, the Plus Four name was again reintroduced with the Series 2 featuring a Fiat Twin Cam 2.0 Litre engine followed by a Rover M16i engine from 1988 which carried through until production again ended in 2000. For 2004 however, the model was relaunched now powered by the Ford Duratec engine mated to a five-speed Mazda gearbox. Power was now 145bhp (later upgraded to 154hp) however Morgan still stuck to their traditional build methods for body construction. The model was again upgraded in 2020 and continues to be sold today, as one of their most popular models.

According to the build ticket on file within the Morgan leather bound presentation folder, chassis SA944200004K00263 was ordered new by supplying dealer Allon White Sportscars and specified in the attractive colour scheme of Land Rover Oxford Blue Metallic over a Muirhead Heron Grey leather interior, with a Black hood. Registered with the DVLA as ‘VU06 LZK’, it was initially used as a demonstrator before being sold to the first private owner, a Mr D Stanley, in February 2007. Mr Stanley kept the car for some twelve years before passing away, and his widow took custodianship of the car in 2019. The vendor took ownership of the Morgan in July 2020 with 16,519 miles displaying on the odometer, purchasing it through Classic Chrome Ltd of Mortlake London and becoming the fourth owner. The vendor has had the car maintained to a very high standard during his ownership, entrusting works to SGT of Maidenhead, with the fitment of a new Alloy radiator during 2021 and with the most recent service evidenced by an invoice at 19,177 miles during July 2023.

Now offered for sale due to the vendor not finding time to use the car, it is said to be in ‘very good’ condition cosmetically, with a paint crack on the offside rear wing being the only noticeable defect apart from age related wear. The rest of the car is described as ‘very good to excellent’ and presented for our photoshoot extremely well indeed. To be sold complete with tonneau cover, hood bag, three spare keys, the aforementioned Morgan leather bound build file, receipts for works, service stamp book showing a total of twelve stamps (now full and not including the service during 2023) and a full suite of MOTs since new, this delightfully spec’d Morgan was consigned displaying just 19,861 miles on the odometer and is due to be driven 50 miles to the sale.

PLEASE NOTE: The private registration number 'X20 TWO' photographed has been removed and is not included in the sale of this lot.
