Lot details
Registration No: TVT786G
Chassis No: 7680212855
Mot Expiry: None

Introduced at the September 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, the rear-wheel drive NSU Prinz 1000 was intended to compete against the likes of the Hillman Imp, Simca 1000 and Fiat 850. Based around a compact two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with all-round independent suspension (double wishbone front / semi-trailing arm rear), four-wheel drum brakes and rack-and-pinion steering, the five-seater was powered by a jewel-like 996cc four-cylinder engine transversely mounted behind its back axle. No doubt influenced by NSU's countless motorcycle racing successes, the air-cooled unit featured a rigid aluminium crankcase, cross-flow alloy cylinder head (complete with overhead camshaft), five-bearing crankshaft and hemispherical combustion chambers. Quoted as developing some 43bhp and 51lbft to torque, it was allied to a four-speed manual gearbox and reputedly endowed the Prinz 1000 with an 80mph top speed. Rechristened the NSU 1000 after its 1967 facelift, the model remained in production until 1972 by which time approximately 196,000 had been made. Though, today survivors are a rare sight (especially on UK roads).
Finished in light beige with red vinyl upholstery, this particular right-hand drive example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its chassis, bodywork and paintwork (while, he considers the interior trim to be "very good"). Apparently off the road for the last ten years due to bereavement, 'TVT 786G' is said to have covered just 17,009 miles from new. Although not currently running, the seller believes that the freely-turning engine simply "requires fresh fuel and minor electrics - points etc". Reportedly "showing little wear inside and out as you would expect for the mileage", this delightful NSU is offered for sale with sundry paperwork including a 1995 MOT certificate issued at 16,272 miles.

PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running.
