The GP200 was the last of the great Lambretta scooters that rolled off of Innocenti’s production line in Milan. Produced from January 1969 until April 1971 it is believed a total of only 9,350 DL/GP200’s were made. The GP200 followed the SX200 and retained the engine prefix of SX200 before the serial number. The iconic bodywork followed the trends of the day - the early 1970s. The Bertone design was more streamlined than its predecessors with a new 22/2 frame and rectangular headlight. There were, however, significant improvements to the engine over the SX including: improved crankshaft, a complete overhaul of the gearbox ratios and improved Ducati ignition. The Electronic version went even further with a 6v electronic ignition and CDI unit and these today are extremely collectible.

This 1970 manufactured GP200 Electronic, was registered new on the 19th August 1971 in Bow, East London and has only 2 known former keepers. The vendor is a well-known aficionado of GP200s on the UK collector scene and has a wealth of knowledge in the marque. This scooter has been in his ownership for several decades. His scooters are now gradually and reluctantly coming up for sale and only for health reasons. His scooters are always ‘standard’, using original and NOS parts.

This example has appears to have been treated to a restoration to a high level of originality. Although originally ochre (yellow) and now in the correct red Lechler Lambretta Red colour of 1970, the fastidious level of detail down to the smallest parts can be clearly seen by careful examination of the photographs.

Starting with the electrics, ‘KGC’ has the correct Red HT lead to the CDI and original NOS 6v SAFA battery. The ignition switch is a NOS original, along with the original key. Body panels are a superb fit and the seat is a very rare British market version Guiliari racing seat with extension and original cover, with original stitching. Floor edging ‘Sharks teeth’ is original as is the Bomisa leg shield badge. There are no stainless fastenings anywhere on the scooter and all parts are BZP as they would have been on the original. Cables are all fastened with the correct straps and have the correct grease nipple points. The original speedometer has been restored and re-calibrated showing less than a mile since the restoration. Brake adjusters are the original late short versions found on late GPs.

Plastic parts are NOS original Black including the petrol flap (which even has the original plastic hinge pin), horncast front and rear frame grille. The correct NOS Black toolbox and thin rear light gasket are also present. Even the correct Black writing is positioned on the fuel tank. The levers are the later correct ball end type. All the keys are present for ignition, toolbox and steering lock and they are of the correct era and not reproductions. The smallest details that are often overlooked are present and one needs to examine the photographs to see the way cable ends are finished to see the standard on display here of this rare scooter.

The engine has been overhauled to the same standard using all original or NOS parts. We have seen the scooter running; with bright headlights and started easily as one would expect. It will need running in. This is a very rare opportunity for the most serious collector of Lambrettas.
