The Mayfair had been launched in 1982 as a more luxurious version of the base Mini City and remained in production until 1996. Equipment options included 12-inch wheels, opening rear side windows, radio, head restraints, locking fuel cap and front disc brakes. By the time the Longbridge Plant finally closed in 2000, more than 5 million Minis had been built. As everyday cars most would suffer the ravages of use and time before disappearing from our roads.

Purchased new as a 998cc Mini Mayfair Automatic by an elderly lady driver and then gifted to a younger family member when she stopped driving. Enthusiastic to put their stamp on it, the new owner upgraded the Mayfair with a 1275cc engine and manual gearbox which had been overhauled. The modified specification includes a ‘1275 Cooper S’ stainless steel exhaust system, 13" late ‘Cooper S’ model Minilite-style alloy wheels, and modified suspension.

External modifications include clear rear lenses and indicators, 4 Cooper-style front fog/driving lights and ‘John Cooper’ bonnet flashes and ‘Mini Cooper’ decals on the flanks. Inside, there are late Cooper-style wood effect dash and gauges for oil temperature, voltage and a clock. In-car sounds are provided by a Ministry of Sound CD radio unit. The odometer displays just c.14,291 miles. The modifications offer either a sporty Mayfair or a luxury Cooper for the new custodian. Previously bought, but little used by the current owner, the car is described by the vendor as cosmetically 'very good' indeed.
