Designed by Autotune of Rishton, Lancashire, and built with Jaguar’s written permission, the Aristocat was an evocation created “in the spirit of” the Jaguar XK140. Intended as a kit-form classic, it allowed amateur enthusiasts to construct the car at home using donor components from Jaguar XJ6, XJS, or XJ12 models spanning 1968 to 1996. Featuring a purpose-built steel spaceframe chassis, the Aristocat could be assembled to suit a range of budgets, often using up to 80 percent of the donor car’s components—including seats and dashboard. The use of unmodified XJ suspension meant the finished car was a more practical five inches wider than an XK120 or XK140, but only an inch broader than an XK150. Blending classic styling with modern mechanicals, the Aristocat proved a highly capable machine; the original prototype was timed by a journalist at 0–60 mph in just six seconds, with a top speed exceeding 150 mph.
Correctly registered as an Aristocat with the date of manufacture November 1982, this particular example is presented in Black with Blue interior and matching hood. Benefiting from a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, ‘A525 GBY’ benefited from a top-end engine overhaul in April of this year at a cost of c. £2,000, with the brakes and steering checked over for good measure. The battery was also replaced, along with chrome overriders in preparation for sale. With 99,000 miles on the odometer, this useable example comes accompanied with a small history file containing a hand-writtten log of previous works, previous invoices and the current V5C document.
Please note: the vendor informs us he will be fitting a period-style steering wheel to the vehicle in preparation for sale.
