If you want to select a model that defined a whole genre of road cars for decades to come, look no further than the Golf GTi. Other hot hatches have worn the GTi badge, some have challenged for the crown without such a moniker. None have made such an impact at birth or stood the test of time so well.

This lovely MK2 GTI comes with its bill of sale dated 2/1/87, every MOT since 1990 , original book pack , sales brochure , price list and a comprehensive service record with every invoice from the 1 and only owner and two sets of keys. Always garaged and professionally maintained. Used as a daily driver until 1994 . In the words of the vendor its history is as follows :

"In the first 2.5 years I was daily commuting from North Sheffield to my office in central Rotherham on the least congested route I could find (11 miles each way) which would account roughly for 13,200 of the 35,000 travelled. Obviously there would be other short trips but the majority of the other 21,800 was long trips away including annual motoring holidays (3 of them) to the Alps.

After the first 2.5 years, the commute became from North Sheffield to either Pudsey (38 miles each way) or central Leeds (33 miles each way). The vast majority of this is motorway. The long trips away and the holidays on the continent continued.

Then in August 1994 I acquired a used VW Jetta for the commuting and started saving the Golf GTI very much "for best" - trips away and holidays "
