Dr Hubert Hadethauer (SAPOR) Mercer - The 1913 35J Raceabout
Estimated at £12,500 - £14,000
Lot details
This limited edition fully working 1:8th scale scratch built model was built in 1991 by Dr Hubert Hadethauer to his own exacting standards with the emphasis on producing the perfect miniature.
As in all his models, this car actually drives like a real car with working clutch, gears, hand brake and accelerator pedal. The roof can be raised and lowered, the hinged cowling opens to show a completely replicated engine, the driver and passenger doors open and the model benefits from having working steering and suspension. This model numbered 14/25 combines over 3000 parts all scratch built from raw materials. To meet the high quality standards SAPOR constructed about 1700
drilling devices and over 800 bending, punching and moulding tools of their own.
This example is finished in the cream livery applied in three coats over the primer coat. Note the moulded sheet steel frame, the cast tinplate motor casing, cylinder blocks and manifold the tempered half-elliptical leaf springs, the valves controlled by sealed camshafts, a resistent clutch, moulded steel coachwork and mudguards, gear casing, brass gear work with sealed bearings, the brass brake-and gear-shift-levers, the wood-spoke-wheels with brass rims and rubber tyres, the steering column with gear work, wooden steering wheel and brass front axle & much more. Truly sensational!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
