Lot details Registration No: Un-Reg Frame No: GBAC0054 Engine No: 8492417 cc: 50 MOT Expiry Date: None
Founded in Milan, Northern Italy, in 1971, SWM (or Speedy Working Motors) employed German Sachs and then Rotax 2-stroke engines ranging in capacity from 50cc for their step-through mopeds to 350cc for the off-road motorcycles for which they became best known. However, when SWM took over Gori in 1979, the enlarged company floundered in 1985 and an attempt to resurrect production under the similar initials SCM only last a while longer, production ending for good in 1987. The highspot for the marque was in 1981 when a SWM ridden by one Giles Burgat won the World Trials Championship.
Offered here is a thought to have been made around 1980 SWM trials of unknown capacity. Thanks to having been carefully dry stored for much of its life, it is reportedly virtually new and unregistered. The 1980-built SWM RS250 GS trials bike had a single-cylinder 2-stroke 247cc motor, which produced 41bhp at 8250rpm, and provided off-roaders with 6-gears to play with - so this SWM should be more than capable of providing highly entertaining transport around your estate!
PLEASE NOTE: We have since learnt that the frame number is GBAC0054, the engine number is 8493417 and that it is a 50cc and not 247cc as previously stated. We also now believe it to be a 1976 example.
