The 1954-made Ford Zephyr being auctioned was rescued from a scrapyard in 1979 when a full restoration commenced with photo record. Since acquisition by only the sixth owner in 1997, the 2262cc 6-cylinder engine with Raymond Mays cylinder head has been converted to run on unleaded. We are advised that some £2000 has been spent on maintenance work which has included repainting roof and passenger door, steering linkage renewal and fitting stainless steel exhaust. The black paintwork and chrome are said to be good apart from the rear bumper and some of the Ford-badged hubcaps. The original maintenance book, tools and jack survive.
This car has been a regular class event award winner for the vendor, whilst amongst previous owners have been a motoring writer and, during the 1960s, a pop group. The car appeared as an extra in the racing circuit car park in the Ruth Ellis movie Dance with a Stranger and also featured in a recent shoot on Formby beach. There is plenty more period motoring footage left in this very 1950s motor car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
