Ford Motor Company made Consul Corsairs, with their distinctive more streamlined front and rear end treatment, have become quite rare these days, although beneath the body panels, a Corsair was mechanically a Cortina Mk I. A few Corsair buyers opined at the time that their bodyshell was better looking than the much more common rep’s Cortina. In the main, Corsairs, which were priced above Cortinas, tended to be bought for women to drive. However, a brace of Corsairs were highly modified by Sir Peter Moon’s team with Lotus Twin Cam engines and loads of goodies specifically for international rallying - but the Lotus Cortina saloon quickly became the preferred route to winning rallies and races.
The 1964 manufactured example with Cortina 1.5 engine and automatic transmission on offer here is even more extraordinary in that it had only one lady owner from new in August 1964 until May of this year. Offered with the car, which is described by the entrant as being good in all departments, are a spare full set of Lotus Cortina road wheels as well as factory workshop manual, parts book and owners handbook. The car was succesfuly MOT tested in May and the road tax disc is current until March of next year.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
