Dominating the 1952 Earl's Court Motor Show, the 'Healey Hundred' drew crowds like a magnet. Penned by Gerry Coker, its low-slung stance, swooping lines and fold flat 'racing' windscreen screamed sports car. Eager to tap into the affluent US market, BMC immediately propositioned Donald Healey as to a joint venture. Utilising a box-section chassis equipped with independent front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and drum brakes, the hastily renamed Austin-Healey 100/4 boasted a 2,660cc four-cylinder engine that developing some 90bhp and 144lbft of torque. Capable of 110mph, America reputedly accounted for over 85% of production.
Finished in green with green leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Said to be an "estate disposal", it has been running and driving at the sale but lacks a current MOT certificate.
