A simple gentleman's dress wristwatch, cream faced with subsidiary small chronograph dial to six o'clock position. The watch features a gilt/stainless steel casing & importantly is inscribed to the reverse side with the famous Nuvolari Turtle insignia, above the signature of Gabriele D'Annunzio; the famous Italian poet, journalist, novelist, dramatist, and daredevil! His role in politics is controversial due to his influence on the Italian Fascist movement and his status as the alleged forerunner of Benito Mussolini. He was a great fan of motor racing & Nuvolari was his hero; this watch reputedly being a gift from him to the man regarded as the greatest racing driver in history by many historians.
Fitted with a brown lightweight textured leather strap & gilt clasp. Offered in fully working order & surely one of the most important pieces of motor racing ephemera to come to the market in recent years.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
