From being one of the main restorers of the MG marque, Naylor moved into manufacturing their own Naylor TF, which is generally reckoned to be an extremely accurate recreation of the MG Car Company's Abingdon-built TF roadster. Like William Morris, the Brothers Naylor employed Morris mechanical components for their handmade sports car, using BL O Series SOHC 4-cylinder engine, 4-speed all-synchro gearbox, independent front suspension and live rear axle from the Morris Ital. Traditional methods of construction were retained with steel chassis, and beaten steel wings and body panels over a wooden frame in ash. The steering was rack and pinion, the brakes dual circuit with disc at the front and drums at the rear.
Naylor TFs were only made 1985-1986, although marque specialist Maurice Hutson did revive the manufacture of the model, making a further 61 cars. A Club has been formed to cater for owners of Naylor and Hutson TFs.
The TF 1700 on offer here (number 58 of the around 100 Naylors made) is said to have had three owners and only been driven 33,809 miles (when entered for this sale) since it first left the Bradford workshops. Painted in BRG and trimmed with cream leather interior, this very English roadster sits on chrome wires. Apart from being ideal for hood-down, Olde English summer motoring, a Naylor should go well, too, being capable of 0-60mph in 11.8sec and a potential top speed of 93mph.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
