Lot details Registration No: MFS302X Chassis No: TPADV7AA/403731 Mot Expiry: June 2004
Being auctioned here is one of only eighteen genuine and always right-hand drive TR8s built in 1980 - this being number 11, which has been featured in Classic and Sportscar magazine and, throughout the 1980s, was the cover car for the Rimmer Bros Triumph Spares Catalogue. The BL works rally team led by Tony Pond and Per Eklund campaigned TR7s with highly modified Rover V8 motors and disc brakes all round to good effect, whilst the factory made a total of 2722 mostly LHD TR8s, powered by 135bhp 3.5-litre and good for 121mph, September 1979-October 1981.
The Herefordshire vendor tells us that he has owned his rare and interesting TR for the last four years, during which time he has driven it less than 3000 miles and spent £4000-5000 on drivetrain, engine bay, interior and underside refurbishment. Currently, the open bodywork is said still to be sound with Pharoah gold paintwork good and very clean tan velour. The 3.5 eight is said to be in very good order and 5-speed manual gearbox good.
This car is well known to both TR Drivers Club and TR Register circles, having featured at several shows. It comes with a history file, which goes back to the original PDI stamped service booklet and Heritage certificate authenticating dating and production details. A late 2001 conducted insurance valuation reckoned it was worth £11,000 at that time.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
