This really is an Austin Sprite, rather than an Austin-Healey Sprite MkV, because, in December 1970, the agreement between BMC (by then absorbed into British Leyland) and Austin Healey marque founder Donald Healey had terminated, so the final 1129 Sprites were badged Austin Sprites, the last being delivered in July 1971.
The Staffordshire owner of one of this final batch of Austin Sprites tells us that his 1971-manufactured sports car has been ground-up restored by a specialist during the last year. The original tub was retained, though refloored, and largely new body panels and all new steering, suspension and brakes components fitted.
We understand that the 1275cc 4-cylinder engine can now take unleaded fuel and is in excellent condition, the dynamo has been replaced by an alternator, and both gearbox and differential reconditioned. The British Racing Green paintwork and Black interior are currently said to be good with many chrome and trim items renewed.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
