Depicting the MG Tigress 18/100 making its racing debut in the 1930 Brooklands Double Twelve Hour race driven by LG Callingham and HD Parker. Crosby is one of the world's foremost twentieth century motoring artists with his dramatic ability to combine excitement and drama with uncanny technical accuracy. As such this is arguably one of the most important MG pictures ever produced. This highly significant work was commissioned by Cecil Kimber and is one of two examples that Crosby produced of the Tigress. The first picture appeared on the cover of the 23rd April 1930 edition of The Autocar with the practice wings. This is believed to be the second, painted immediately after the race and depicts the car wearing cycle-type wings. This second picture featured on the slipcase of the first edition of the seminal MG work 'Maintaining the Breed' and is believed to have hung in the MG factory for many years, the vendor having acquired the work from its second owner. Signed by artist and dated 1930. It is substantially and attractively framed with an acid free surround and also glazed with Tru Vue glass to protect the artwork from ultra-violet light. An outstanding historical work.
