The Packard 120C offered here was originally supplied 6 December 1937 by Californian Packard Dealers Bush-Morgan of Pasadena. The left-hand drive sedan later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where it was unused and stored for sixteen years, In receipt of a sympathetic restoration using authentic Packard materials during the early 1980s, it was acquired by Spillmans Classic Auto, from where it was exported to the UK in 1989 since when it has been in only one ownership.
The straight eight 4621cc motor has recently renewed single Stromberg carb with manual choke conversion, the automatic fittings being supplied with the car to return it to ex-works spec. The bodywork is said to be still good, the black paintwork reportedly excellent with only one or two marks, the maroon cloth interior and the velvet pile carpets unmarked, and the underside all good with no rust - a working automobile and not a museum piece, says the owner.
Mechanically, the car is said to be very good with no known mechanical deficiencies, the 3-speed gearbox being quiet and the clutch good. Recent work carried out includes newly overhauled and machined inlet/exhaust manifolds, renewed head gasket and rebuilt distributor. The original 6 volt electrics are all in good order, flashing indicators installed for MOT test requirements, instruments and locks all work, and there is a good spare tyre with the original tools intact.
