Lot details Registration No: N/A Chassis No: SL142/36 Mot Expiry: N/A
The Lola Type 142 on offer here, chassis number SL 142/36 with Traco-race prepped Chevrolet V8 motor in the back, first appeared on the starting grid of the very first race for the Formula 5000 category. This was on the 4th of April 1969 at Oulton Park, Cheshire, the car being owned and entered by Alan Fraser Racing, and painted in the usual Fraser racing colours of blue with a white stripe down the nosecone. The team's driver was Keith Holland who finished third. He was second at Brands four days later and won the Grand Prix of Jarama in Madrid the following weekend. Holland finished a further ten F5000 rounds that season, only retiring once at Snetterton, to end up fourth overall in the championship.
The car was driven for Fraser by both Holland and Keith Calcutt in 1970 with nine finishes. After a change of ownership in 1971, the car was campaigned by John Bowtell, though without less success, and was finally retired from F5000 racing following a Silverstone retirement in August 1972.
In recent years, the car has been subject to a back-to-basics restoration with components and engineering services provided by many of the leading firms in the historic race car industry. Among specialists employed were Premier of Castle Donington who supplied fuel cells, Spax shock absorbers, Radtec radiator, D Faulkner springs, Fox suspension components, Jarvis chassis and roll-over bar work, ABB Coachcraft body panels, ATJ Transmissions overhaul of the Hewland L500 gearbox...and many, many more.
The vendor describes the condition of this ready to race F5000 and Traco Chevvy V8 as being perfect with only test use following its total rebuild. The single seater has FIA papers enabling it to compete in historic events. Also included are correspondence from first driver Keith Holland, confirming he drove it to victory in Madrid in 1969 and, more recently, round Mallory for a Channel 4 documentary, as well as a later owner Dave Preece. Indeed, all the owners are recorded in the history file, which also contains a stack of invoices covering every area of the car's refurbishment and many photos taken during the extraordinarily comprehensive rebuild. Be sure to check out the detailing of this car for yourself.
Please note: A full updated set of FIA papers are now with the car and include further information about this car's successes.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
