Audi effectively developed the ordinary touring car which was driven on all four wheels in 1977 and the Quattro made its debut at the 1980 Geneva Show where everybody, journalists alike, were enthusiastic about its performance on snow. Developed further as a rally car by Walter Tresser, it had its first full season in the 1981 Championship where it won three major events and won the Championship outright in 1982 and 1984. Their leading drivers were people such as Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist and Michele Mouton and quite literally it became the definitive rally car overnight.
This particular left hand drive example was manufactured in 1985 and is the correct and highly desirable short wheel based version with the 2133cc five-cylinder turbo charged engine. It has completed a warranted 27,000 miles from new and is described as being in absolutely superb condition throughout and, of course, has the Kevlar body. It has never been raced or rallied and comes with a full service history from Audi and has only had two owners in its entire life with the present private owner keeping it for the last twelve years.
A rare and fabulous car to use and this surely must be the best example available.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
