Packard automobiles came to market as a result of James Ward Packard buying a Winton in 1898 and taking it back to Alexander Winton with some suggested improvements. "If you are so smart, you had better build a car yourself", Winton is reported to have said, so Packard did just that. His first Model A Packard was completed in Ohio in 1899.
It was in 1923 that Packard brought out their first Straight 8, which was the first Packard to have brakes operating on all four wheels. The 1924 models were known as the First Series and this numbering system continued every year right up to the 26th Series, which was introduced for the 1953 season. Packards always represented excellent value in the States and soon attracted a loyal following for the marque worldwide. The 1926 models saw custom coachwork being offered with several design being offered
The 11th Series 1934 Packard on offer here has been in the present Lancashire private enthusiast ownership for the past 20 years, during which time it has appeared in several movies. The Club Sedan bodywork is claimed to be in fair to good condition with the brown and gold paintwork fair and the brown interior good, whilst both 5275cc 8-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission are reportedly in good order. The electrics have been converted to 12 volts and the tyres in good condition.
