With their stay fresh looking for years styling, Mercedes-Benz model changes have always been more evolutionary than revolutionary. In 1959, the first generation of unitary construction bodyshells gave way to a restyled version with more conventional styling at the rear, incorporating small fins, though they were very restrained compared to the contemporary transatlantic excesses. Track and bodies were wider and roomier.
The first cars to receive this new look were the 220S and SE - followed, in 1961, by the 190 and 190D, and then the 300. Powered by the 2996cc fuel-injected, 6-cylinder engine and having self-levelling air suspension, most 300s were supplied with automatic transmission, some being open-top cabriolets with SEC suffix.
Although unused since acquisition in November 1983, nevertheless the Stuttgart-built 1964 coupe being auctioned here has always been maintained over the years, claims the current owner who has run the car regularly. The chassis and panels are said to be good with the maroon paintwork and interior both in good condition. The 3-litre six and 4-speed manual transmission are reportedly also in good order.
Please note: The air suspension on this vehicle pumps up when started.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
