Lot details
Registration No: N/A
Chassis No: CK6/09
Mot Expiry: N/A

Arguably the most successful and longest running sports racing car of all time has been the Porsche 956/962 family which was enlarged by a number of 956/962 model derivatives produced by constructor/entrants such as Fitzpatrick, Lloyd and the Kremer Brothers, who had been long time Porsche race car customers since the late 1960s.
Even in its first year on the track, the 956 won at Le Mans and repeated the achievement a further six times at the world’s most famous sportscar race.. After just six years in competition, these German supercars had won 162 of the 200 international races they had started, their Japanese race score being an impressive 31 victories from 35 starts. Indeed, during fourteen seasons, the 956 and the closely related 962 (1984 onwards with monocoque 120mm longer) and 962C (1990 onwards with revised nose and tail, and separate aerofoil on transmission) won six Daytona 24 Hour classics and four Sebring 12 Hours as well as virtually every championship ever contested not only during the 1980s, but and well into the 1990s.
Kremer Racing made a total of 14 Porsche-based race cars of their own, employing the English chassis-making skills of John Thompson at TC Prototypes to fabricate monocoques that were stiffer, stronger and lighter than the works ones in both aluminium and carbonfibre. Bernd Schneider won the 1990 European Interseries in a Kremer 962 CK6 with Thompson composite tub. Whilst the open cockpit Kremer K8’s 1995 Daytona victory was the very last major win for a 962-based race car.
We are absolutely delighted therefore to be auctioning this Kremer-Porsche 962 CK6. Originally built by the famous German racing team specifically for Le Mans, the 962-based Group C long distance race coupe took part in the 1991, 1992 and 1993 24 hour races.
For the 1991 Le Mans, chassis number CK6-09-1991 was a non-finisher in Tiff Needell, Thomas Lopez and Gregor Foitek hands; in 1992, in Hawaiian Tropicana colours, Almo Coppelli, Robin Donovan and Charles Rickett completed 297 laps to finish 11th overall (the best placed Kremer 962 CK6 was 7th); and in 1993, having successfully completed 316 laps in red and black Kenwood livery, drivers Andy Evans, Thomas Saldana and Francois Migault brought the same car home in 13th place.
The righthand drive Le Mans veteran is being sold today with a twin-turbocharged Porsche 3-litre flat six (twin overhead camshafts per bank of cylinders, titanium conrods, 680bhp at 8200rpm in standard form!). We understand from the vendor that this motor has done zero-miles following a full rebuild for the 2004 season. The Porsche 956/62 5-speed all-synchromesh gearbox in a magnesium transmission casing is also reportedly in excellent order. Brembo brake discs and calipers, and Goodyear 18in race tyres are fitted. The aluminium-honeycomb monocoque, composite and GRP coupe bodywork and period-correct red and black race paintwork are all said to be in excellent condition, while some spare bodywork and an extra set of wheels are included.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running.
