'KWE 735J' was built to design number 980 by H.J. Mulliner for Derbyshire County Council, and is accompanied by the related 50-page construction manual and factory photo - at that stage it bore the distinctive registration 'L1'. It enjoyed a brief and pampered sojourn in Hong Kong during the 1990s before being repatriated and acquired by the last keeper; now deceased. He owned a number of vehicles and reserved the Phantom for 'high days and holidays', as a result of which it covered just 3,875 miles during his 13 year tenure. This brought the indicated mileage to 133,000, which the vendor informs us is supported by the large collection of old MOTs.
The Rolls' specification includes a full cut glass cocktail cabinet, special order occasional seats, dual air conditioning and a rear-mounted DVD player, and the vendor considers the car to be 'in excellent condition, with very good chrome', and a 'very nice interior with almost unmarked woodwork'. The car has recently been fitted with new tyres and steering box and is now offered complete with its full complement of factory-supplied tools and the original owner's handbook. We understand some of the paperwork accumulated over the years has been mislaid as a result of the bereavement, but the history file still contains bills totalling some £10,000, numerous old tax discs etc. Finished in Balmoral Green over Ice Green, and trimmed in Green hide (front) and Green velour (rear), 'KWE 735J' provides a relatively rare opportunity to acquire such noble transport.
