Lot details Registration No: SFO 758 Chassis No: B248DW Mot Expiry: Oct 2002
The Crewe-built S2 was introduced in 1959 with 6230cc V8 engine which was to be largely unchanged until 1970 when enlarged to 6750cc. The 1962 car on offer was flown by Silver City Airways when new to Switzerland, where it had a kilometre odometer, which was changed to the current milometer on return to the UK when it was re-registered ELW 259J. The 86,077 mileage is believed to be the genuine total from that reimportation.
There are only three registered owners on file, the current owning it for the last four years during which time it has been kept covered in a heated garage. He reports that body, engine, transmission and electrical equipment are all good with only minor blemishes to paint and excellent leather and woodwork. Some features, all said to have been factory-fitted, are noteworthy, including a driver’s side lockable glovebox, handbrake warning light, sliding covers over front door storage, small side parking lights, orange side indicators to front, badge bar, twin-tone horn with muting switch and long range fuel tank.
A new exhaust in stainless steel was fitted in 1999, battery renewed 2000 and tyres 2001. Included are the original handbook, sales literature, service receipts from 1992, letters from former keepers including Jack Salter, RREC Yorkshire President, owner 1993-96. An S2, like this one, is reckoned to be more desirable than the twin-headlamp 1962 S3 replacement.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
