On offer here is a Bentley R Type sports saloon, which was delivered with grey paintwork and interior to Car Mart Sales in London's West End for sale to Coventry Radiator and Pressworks, registered to them 28 June 1954. It was then transferred to the ownership of second keeper, Richard Fergusson Gardner of Shipston Upon Stour, on his retirement as Chairman, Gardner keeping his perk until early 1995, when it came into the possession of the Murray Motor Company. The Edinburgh firm carried out extensive restoration work to bodywork and interior, the internal charge for the work done amounting to £9884.
OYY 88 was then purchased by David McHaig of Hawick, who kept the car from July 1996 until February 2000 when he traded it for a Rolls-Royce. In April 2000, it was acquired by a Mr Tratalos of Hale, who hardly used the car during his one year ownership, whilst in July 2001 it was purchased by the current Cheshire vendor who claims the 104,703 miles indicated when entered for the sale is the genuine total mileage.
Among work recorded in the history file, the 4566cc 6-cylinder engine was rebored and fitted with new pistons by Broughtons of Cheltenham in 1976 and resprayed in the original Tudor Grey in 2002. Body and paint are said to be excellent, interior very good, and motor and 4-speed automatic transmission both very good.
