Reid Railton was born in 1895 in Alderley Edge in Cheshire, not far from where you are today. He was the son of a stockbroker and went on in 1923 to fulfil his ambition to design and build his own automobile. He had worked at Leyland with Parry Thomas who went on to achieve his objective of a Land Speed Record in 'Babs' at 171.02mph and it is these two men who were most closely associated with this motoring name from the past.
Reid Railton died in 1977 but William Towns decided to resurrect the Railton name with the F29 Claremont pictured above. Two cars were manufactured and retailed for £105,000 at the 1991 Motor Show and this blue car is effectively the tourer model and features spats across the rear wheels to distinguish it from the F28 Fairmile which was intended as a sports model with bigger rear wheels and tyres. Only fifty of these examples were intended to be built but, in the event, only these two were manufactured and this particular one has only done 9,000 miles from new.
Completely based on an XJS it was purchased by the present private owner from Mr Towns' widow in 1995 and is described as being in exceptional condition throughout. It comes with full service records and can be serviced by any Jaguar dealer and this extremely attractive coachwork turns heads wherever it goes.
An opportunity not to be missed by the discerning collector.
