Ernest Ballot started to manufacture engines in 1906 and his designs were chosen by many quality car manufacturers such as Delage. He had great aspirations though and by 1919 had produced a complete chassis with an exotic twin-cam engine which competed in the French, Italian and Spanish Grand Prix as well as the Targa Florio and Indianapolis 500. Their performance was spectacular but they had a limited market so in 1923 Ballot produced a two-litre tourer for road use and then in 1926 a more sporting version which was the 2 LTS that has been revered the world over ever since.
This particular car was sold from the Ballot showroom in Chiswick High Street on the 10th June 1926 with a rather old fashioned and heavy saloon body but it has a continuous registration and ownership history in the UK to the present day. The present owner decided sixteen years ago that as it was an extremely rare car and suitable for all the family that he would start a 'no expense spared' restoration and this was commissioned using marque experienced professionals. A very attractive and contemporary Lagache-Glazemann four seat open tourer body was found and everything was then renewed or replaced and an invitation to the Louis Vuitton concours last year is a testament to the quality of the work completed.
It is in stunning condition and has the highly important VSCC blue form and there is a lovely history file which includes details of how he spent over £50,000 and of course it comes with the very collectable mascot, the headlights and the Zenith triple diffuser carburetor, which are of course collector's items in their own right.
Please note: This car has the hood for the front two seats located discreetly behind the rear seat and it has the tonneau covers to both front and rear. The stunning mascot has also been removed for security reasons and can be viewed in the documentation office along with the amazing history file of papers and articles.
