Humber was one of several British marques acquired by the family owned Rootes Group in 1928 and always catered for up-market buyers. Like so many other Midlands car firms, Thomas Humber's original concern made bicycles and later tricycles. Initially, Humber built copies of the French Michaux velocipede from 1870 in Nottingham, moving his workshop to nearby Beeston in 1878. He later added factories in Wolverhampton and Coventry, where new fangled Safety Bicycles and tricycles were made, before diversifying into motor cars in 1896.
On offer here is a postwar, pre-Chrysler UK and Peugeot ownership, Coventry-built Super Snipe Series V estate with manual transmission and the preferred overdrive as well as power steering, which left the Humber works at Ryton-on-Dunsmore in 1967.
In recent years, the vehicle has been reunited with its original registration and all four tyres have been renewed. The estate bodywork is claimed to be very tidy, the silver grey paintwork fairly good, the red interior good, and the 2965cc 6-cylinder engine, electrical equipment and transmission all OK. Now quite rare, this Super Snipe estate has been a very usable classic, says the Liverpool owner.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
