1973 MG Midget MKIII

Sold for £3,600

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: NOK496M
Chassis No: GAN5/142579G
Mot Expiry: July 2009

Announced in October 1966, the MG Midget MKIII utilised the same monocoque chassis as its predecessors. Equipped with independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering, its adoption of a larger 1275cc twin-carburettor fed A-series engine and improved one-piece folding hood meant that it was both faster and more civilised. Visually updated in October 1969 with Rostyle wheels, black painted sills and sundry trim changes, the MKIII adopted round wheelarches for 1972 (before making way for the rubber-bumpered MKIV some two years later).

Finished in Teal Blue with blue upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (interior trim, chassis) or "excellent" (engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Entering the current ownership ten years ago, 'NOK 496M' is said to have undergone "an extensive nut and bolt restoration in 2002 - 2004" which included "all new panelwork" and the refurbishment of its "brakes, fuel system, steering, suspension and dashboard / instruments". Treated to an "engine, gearbox and clutch overhaul" not to mention "conversion to unleaded fuel", the MG further benefited from a "new hood to compliment its rejuvenated interior and fresh paintwork". Riding on restored Rostyle wheels shod with new Dunlop SP sport tyres, the two-seater boasts extras such as a "Moto Lita wood rim steering wheel and alloy rocker cover". Understood to "drive exactly as it should", this pampered Midget is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until July 2009.
