Lot details Registration No: PNW 833 Chassis No: 59096 Mot Expiry: June 2003
The Daimler DB18 was introduced in 1939 but the Special Sports examples, of which only 608 were produced in total, did not arrive until 1949. There was the 2/3 seater drophead coupe and the extremely rare Hooper Empress saloon.
One of only a handful of this particular model which has survived with the rare Hooper coachwork, it was purchased by the present owner in 1995 and was immediately subject to a full ground up restoration to the highest standard. The bodywork is described as being practically faultless and the interior still retains its original push button radio and the instrumentation is correct. It has a superb new grey leather interior trim with matching head lining and the rear compartment has all the correct period fittings and the fitted tools are still in the boot.
It has won many concours trophies, which are available with the car, including 'car of the show' at Astal Park and this stunning car, with the pre-select gearbox of course, has a history file which contains many invoices, some photographs of the restoration and an original Hooper coachbuilders specification manual.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
