The Delage company suffered financial collapse in 1935, but with assistance from businessman Walter Watney was merged with Delahaye. Its survival spawned a new era of 'Delage by Delahaye', of which the D6-70 was an early result. The chassis was basically Delahaye, while the 2.7-litre engine was a bored-out version of the six-cylinder Delage unit designed by Michelat. This was coupled to a four-speed Cotal pre-selector gearbox.

This delightful 'matching numbers' D6-70 has had just two long-term keepers since its manufacture in 1937. The first retained the car until 1967, while the second kept it until his death last year, following which a relation restored the six-cylinder engine, Cotal transmission and brakes, completing the work in March of this year. It was at this point the vendor obtained ownership. However a week later he discovered a long desired Delahaye 'Coupe des Alpes' that he would like to own instead - hence the Delage's availability once more. Last seen displayed at the 'La Vie en Blue' event at Prescott in May, the Delage has still only covered 12 miles since the refurbishments were completed. Finished in Dark Red with Brown upholstery, the car is regarded by the vendor as having "reasonable" bodywork and paintwork but upholstery that "needs replacing". A rare and interesting proposition.
