Lot details Registration No: VDP 494 Chassis No: GHD5-290771G Mot Expiry: Dec 2009
Among the most convincing Cobra look-a-likes we have encountered, 'VDP 494' combines a Hawk 289 tubular chassis and GRP bodywork with various items of MG running gear. Registered with the DVLA as a 'MG Hawk' - the same government body giving its year of manufacture as 1972 - the two-seater is powered by a 3.9 litre Rover V8 engine allied to five-speed manual transmission. Sporting weather equipment (hood, hood frame, sidescreens), bumpers, wind deflectors and chrome wire wheels, the 'MG Hawk' further benefits from Jaguar independent rear suspension and Ford-style dress-up 'goodies' for its engine (rocker covers, pancake air filter etc).
Currently the property of renowned historic racer, Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams, who describes the sportscar as being in "very good overall" condition, 'VDP 494' is understood to have covered only 1,000 or so miles since its reconfiguration. Indeed, Mr Williams tells us that his main reasons for sale are (a) the two-seater is too smart to chuck at hedges / Armco and (b) he gets embarrassed explaining it is not a real Cobra. Worthy of close inspection, this nicely detailed 'MG Hawk' is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, historic class (free) road tax valid until November 2009 and MOT certificate valid until December 2009.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
