Lot details
Registration No: T.B.A.
Chassis No: S824463BW
Mot Expiry: None
Although recognisable as a direct descendant of the XK120, the 1957-launched 150 appeared to be very much wider and roomier than previous XK models and was certainly far more refined and comfortable. The most significant specification change was to the brakes with Jaguar Le Mans car developed Dunlop discs all round and the previously special order SE version of the well proven 3442cc six, producing 210bhp, now standard fit. Available as roadster, drophead or fixed head coupe, just 9395 XK150s were manufactured at the Browns Lane works between 1957 and the spring of 1961, when replaced by the far more volume-made E Type.
This XK150, a right-hand drive fixed head, is the proverbial `barn find'. According to the copy of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust letter in the vehicle's documents file, S 824463 BW was manufactured in Coventry during June 1958. The 28 October dated letter signed by Chief Archivist Anders Ditlev Clausager also suggested that this information would be sufficient to obtain a UK registration mark with the year letter suffix appropriate to the year and gain acceptance in the `historic vehicle' taxation class.
As the precice cosmetic and mechanical state of this two-door auto in silver with red and black interior cannot be accurately ascertained by any cursory inspection, the currently unregistered project must be considered in the `for restoration' category. This said, however, a genuine, right-hand drive 150 coupe at the sort of price you might be able to land this one for could be a practical and potentially appreciating proposition for a successful bidder today.
